Thanks so much for the tips, Rachel! Good to hear from a diaper expert. :)

In the end, my little guy has grown in to his MotherEase, so I think we'll stick with our current stash. I'm not sure they're as high-tech as the other options, but I can recommend them for good value. The one size version that I have has worked for my older son as a toddler (we started late) and for my younger son starting from 2 months - although not without bulk, as noted. But we only spent about $150 for our set of 12, which seems to work fine with a laundry load every 2 days. (We use disposables at night.)

Thanks also to other posters for good washing tips!

Hey everyone
I am not a cloth diaper user at the moment, as i felt taking on my first child would be an adventure in itself. However, i have reached a point where I would definitely be willing to try it out for our next (not expecting, just thinking ahead ;) )...or maybe even for my 10 month old, if possible to convert her :). I have read all of your posts and have found all of it very helpful. I am still, however, intimidated by all the sites and ranges from which to choose! I would definitely be interested in attending a gathering if some of you would be willing to show off your nappies. I am also very interested in the TotsBots if anyone has some of those. Has anyone gotten to the point of potty training just yet? Or tried the potty training cloth diapers? Anyway, I will be more than happy to help with a gathering....food, drinks, etc. My place isnt very big, but I could offer it up for a few people.

I would be happy to attend a gathering with samples of all my nappies. I have prefolds, fitteds, and all-in-ones. So far, I like the all-in-ones by far the best. What about the week of June 8?

I started out thinking I would cloth diaper more, but my DS was getting diaper rash with the cloths and not disposables, so now my cloth stash is used primarily around the house for semi-naked time. I have prefolds in 3 sizes, Growing Green OS fitted diapers, a Happy Heiny and Fuzzy Bunz AIO pocket diapers and wool and regular covers. Like Christie, I'm interested in the TotsBots training pants.

I would be happy to host something at my place if people want to head my direction, but I'm in Balduina, though right next to a train stop that is easily reached by Metro A, or you can take a bus from Pza. Cavour. There is also a lovely park just up the street from my house with Baby Swings!

Caroline suggested the week of June 8th. How about Wednesday June 10th at 11:00?

p.s. the website http://www.greenmountaindiapers.com is a great resource for research. They have photos of many of their products on actual babies of different sizes so you can get the idea of how the different diapers fit and how well One Size diapers actually fit baby as they grow.

Okay, this is my last post, but I haven't looked at the website for awhile, and just found this new diaper/trainer they have listed for when you need a thin diaper to go under that special outfit, or for when you are ready to start potty training!

Incidentally, my 4 week old has outgrown his Kissaluvs newborn. I would be happy to sell them cheap to someone. They are ideal for newborns because they fold under the cord.

I also have a really lovely upholstered natural cotton coloured Moses Basket with rocking stand, and new Mothercare top range mattress (hardly used as we ended up having the baby in bed with us!). 70 euros

I am contemplating using cloth diapers since I will be a stay at home mom with my soon to be born second once we get to Rome. Can anyone tell me approximately how much disposable diapers cost in Rome? Are there any diapering services available in Rome that are reliable and not outrageous?

No diapering services here in Rome. They just don't do it.
Disposables vary a lot in their prices. The most ecologically friendly brands (e-nature, moltex) cost about 16euros for 35 diapers. There are also some perfectly reasonable washable diapers available now (you can order them online from newbabyberry.com) or there are some stores that carry them (iobimbo)
A good place to buy them is also ebay (is US or UK) lots of people selling unused washable diapers at good prices.
